Unlike previous generations, Wi-Fi 8 (IEEE Ultra High Reliability) will not increase maximum theoretical speeds beyond Wi-Fi 7's 23Gbps per band. Instead, it targets a 25% throughput improvement in noisy conditions, 25% latency reduction for the 95th percentile, and 25% lower packet loss. New features include distributed-tone resource units (DRUs) for better transmit power, interference mitigation pilots, unequal modulations per spatial stream, and seamless roaming between access points. The standard is expected to be finalized by May 2028.
