What happened to the Snowden archive
Points and comments are a snapshot, not live.
No Snowden archive documents have been published since May 2019.
The last Snowden archive document was published on May 29, 2019, by The Intercept. No outlet has published any since. The Guardian stopped in February 2014 after publishing 0.05% of its 58,000 documents, following UK government pressure and D-notice engagement. Other outlets stopped earlier. Multiple individuals and institutions still hold copies, including Glenn Greenwald and Laura Poitras, who say the archive contains hundreds of thousands of unreported documents of contemporary significance, but neither has published anything in seven years nor explained why.
What commenters are saying
Several commenters argue the public has become desensitized and the Overton window has shifted, making surveillance revelations no longer scandalous. Some note that previous abuses (MKUltra, Palmer Raids) were worse. One thread posits that outrage is short-lived and easily waited out, citing the Epstein files. A commenter suggests such articles might be honeypots for Pegasus-style malware. Multiple users express cynicism about democratic oversight of intelligence agencies.
