Supabase is acquiring Turso

Supabase acquires Turso to build agentic database infrastructure combining SQLite and Postgres.
Supabase is acquiring Turso to evolve database infrastructure for agentic AI, where agents spin up millions of databases for prototypes and apps. Supabase currently launches over one million databases per week. Turso rebuilt SQLite in Rust and created a cloud platform where a single server can manage millions of databases, loading them when needed and suspending when idle. Supabase will continue building around Postgres, and Turso will continue its work on SQLite. Together they aim to let agents create databases as easily as files, with a clear path from SQLite prototyping to Postgres production. Glauber Costa will lead the agentic infrastructure effort.
What commenters are saying
Commenters expressed a mix of excitement, curiosity, and concern. Some welcomed the acquisition, seeing potential for SQLite-based small workloads alongside Postgres scaling. Others worried about Turso's future independence and possible deprecation. Skeptics questioned why Supabase would acquire a product that had performance issues in ClickBench benchmarks, with one commenter noting ingestion speed dropped to 4 KB/s. Turso's CEO replied that the company was doing fine, calling it a strategic acquisition driven by shared vision. A few commenters defended Turso's Rust rewrite, citing features SQLite lacks, while others argued against rewriting well-tested software.
