Quake – 30th Anniversary Update
Points and comments are a snapshot, not live.
Bethesda and MachineGames released a free 30th-anniversary Quake episode, Dawn of the Machine.
Dawn of the Machine is a free update for Quake on Xbox, PC, Steam, PlayStation, and Switch. It includes 19 new maps, a new enemy and weapon variants, a replayable episodic loop, and a cheats menu. The update also adds the id Vault with behind-the-scenes development assets and fixes across all platforms. The episode is not yet available on GOG or Epic Games Store versions of Quake.
What commenters are saying
Top commenters questioned whether the new episode works with open-source Quake ports like vkQuake and IronWail; responses noted that modding changes to localization strings will require updates, but ports previously handled the Dimension of the Machine episode well. Several commenters criticized the article's heavy emoji usage, with some calling it AI-generated copy and others tracing the trend to Notion and LLM-driven writing. A separate discussion noted that the update is only for modern digital storefront versions, not the original CD release, and that it pushes the original engine's limits.
