Minecraft: Java Edition now uses SDL3
Points and comments are a snapshot, not live.
Minecraft replaces GLFW with SDL3 for windowing and input, plus many technical changes.
Minecraft: Java Edition snapshot 26w31a switches from GLFW to SDL3 for window management, input, and platform integration. Borderless fullscreen is now default; exclusive fullscreen on macOS is removed, and causes crashes on Windows (multi-monitor) and Wayland. New item components include cooking_fuel, brewing_fuel, sign text components, and waxed markers. Data pack version is 111; resource pack version 92. Signs no longer auto-execute click events. New environment attributes control natural mob spawns and creature world-gen spawn probability. Loot tables now support inline values and tag references. Many advancement triggers accept predicates or tags.
What commenters are saying
Exclusive fullscreen crashes on Windows and Wayland are seen as expected for a snapshot-users must opt in and expect bugs. Commenters note borderless fullscreen is already the norm and works well with DXGI flip model. SDL3 adoption is highlighted: osu! recently switched from SDL2, gaining performance/latency improvements and eliminating Discord-related lag. Some commenters discuss SDL3's Linux packaging (Ubuntu 24.04 lacking it) and that many games ship their own SDL, but system SDL3 is common on Linux via sdl2-compat.
