Jellyfin 12.0
Points and comments are a snapshot, not live.
Jellyfin 12.0 rewrites database schema, adds book/comic support, and drops '10' major version.
Version 12.0 (formerly 10.12.0) finishes database conversion from 10.11, enabling performance improvements for playlists, collections, and browsing. A required post-upgrade library scan rebuilds alternate version links. Books/comics gain native OPF/ComicInfo metadata reading, EPUB/comic posters, chapter extraction, and a redesigned reading interface. The Modern layout becomes default; Legacy remains available. Recommendations and search are now plugin-extensible. Subtitle settings are per-library, usernames are case-insensitive, and legacy `/emby/`/`/mediabrowser/` API support is removed. Security fixes address directory traversal and XSS.
What commenters are saying
Longtime Plex users see Jellyfin as a viable exit strategy if Plex degrades further, though some note Jellyfin's client polish and music support (especially Plexamp) remain weaker. Several commenters have already switched, reporting minor setup friction but acceptable trade-offs. One user detailed using Claude to debug their *arr stack configuration and recommended adding Usenet for near-automated success. The thread acknowledges Plex's eventual rug-pull risk but notes Jellyfin still trails in TV/smart-TV client quality.
