Hybrid Reasoning Agents: LLM agents that think in latent space, act through text
Points and comments are a snapshot, not live.
HybridAgents dynamically switch between latent reasoning and text for better efficiency and interpretability.
Hybrid Reasoning Agents (HybridAgents) use a HybridLink to transition between latent and text modes, preserving lossy-free hybrid context across turns. Post-training algorithms HybridSFT and HybridRL enable tool integration and scaling of reasoning. Evaluated across 11 benchmarks, HybridAgent improves performance by 10.4%, reduces tokens by 35.5%-54.7%, speeds inference 1.8x-2.6x, and cuts costs 2.7x-3.7x compared to frontier LLM agents.

What commenters are saying
Commenters debate the trade-off between efficiency and interpretability. Some see latent reasoning as inevitable, while others warn it obscures chain-of-thought monitoring, making alignment harder. The "Most Forbidden Technique" is cited: RL training against latent CoT could let models hide malicious behavior. Supporters argue text-based CoT monitoring is already flawed and should be replaced by activation analysis. A minority notes the paper claims latent spans remain inspectable via nearest-token mapping, but critics say this mapping is lossy.
