Google released Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash with new video controls via the Gemini API.

The launch adds scene extension using up to 10 seconds of prior context for 40-second total videos, first and last frame interpolation, 360p draft mode (up to 60% faster than 720p), 4K upscaling, and video reference input of up to three seconds. Pricing and availability: Google AI Studio, Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, and to Google AI Plus/Pro/Ultra subscribers in Google Flow. Scene extension is also available in the Gemini app.

What commenters are saying

The thread focused on how screen and voice actors have unionized and bargained for AI consent and compensation, citing California's AB 2602 and AB 1836, while software developers lack collective bargaining power. Commenters split between those arguing developers should unionize (or form co-ops) and those believing it's unnecessary or self-serving, or noting that adaptability is preferable. A minority pointed out racial diversity, offshoring, and anti-union employer tactics as structural barriers.
