Nitter project will continue after receiving legal advice on X Corp.'s takedown demand.
On 24 August 2026, X Corp. sent cease and desist letters demanding permanent takedown of Nitter instances and its repository. Following legal advice, the project will continue with more details to be announced. Nitter is a free, open-source alternative Twitter front-end focused on privacy and performance. It uses no JavaScript, has zero ads, and prevents tracking by routing all requests through the backend. The project is AGPLv3 licensed and accepts donations via GitHub Sponsors, Patreon, Liberapay, Ko-fi, and cryptocurrency.
