Points and comments are a snapshot, not live.
Bevy 0.20 released with Solari path tracer improvements and major BSN scene syntax changes.
Bevy 0.20, a Rust game engine, adds 817 pull requests from 227 contributors. Solari, the realtime path tracer, gets improved image quality, optional ReSTIR (off by default), DLSS-RR 4.5 support, and macOS compatibility. BSN scene syntax now requires `@` prefixes for scenes, uses `--` to separate list entities, and removes `template_value` wrappers. A new `Ready` event fires when scene entities and descendants are fully spawned. The Feathers UI toolkit adds Color Input, Scrollable List View, Dropdown Selection, and Lazy Menu widgets. Bevy adopted WESL shader language (a WGSL extension), replacing its custom dialect.
Sprite materials and pan-orbit camera are also new.
What commenters are saying
Comments are mostly positive, praising the team's work and expressing excitement about learning Bevy. Some users note difficulty getting started, particularly building without Wayland, while others report smooth experiences across platforms. A recurring concern is frequent breaking changes causing migration overhead; one developer reports a 37k-line game stuck on Bevy 0.15. Several users mention using AI agents to build games with Bevy. A contributor criticizes the new BSN syntax as over-sigiled and not LR(1), arguing it tries to serve too many use cases.
