Apple/macOS removed from official Unix registry
Points and comments are a snapshot, not live.
MacOS appears to have been removed from The Open Group's official UNIX certified products registry.
The Open Group's UNIX certification registry page lists certified systems that meet the Single UNIX Specification. The page describes benefits for application developers (guaranteed consistency, portability, backward-compatibility) and users (investment protection, multi-supplier choice). Only fully compliant systems may use the UNIX trademark.
What commenters are saying
Commenters debate whether this is a real change or a site rendering bug. Some note macOS Tahoe (14.0) was certified on September 14, 2025, and that macOS 26 is still listed under UNIX03. Others argue the registry index only shows current versions, and Golden Gate may simply not have passed certification yet. A camps splits between those who see it as meaningful (suggesting Apple may move away from UNIX compatibility) and those who dismiss it as irrelevant since the UNIX brand has been dead for decades. Several commenters point out macOS is still listed on a separate Apple-specific registration page.
